SMS Expiry Reminders
SMS expiry reminders send parkers a single text message 15 minutes before their parking session ends. This gives them time to extend or wrap up before receiving a ticket.
Overview
- One reminder per session—no follow-up messages.
- Customizable at the location, tenant, or event level.
- If no custom instructions are enabled, Offstreet will automatically send a default reminder message. The message that gets sent is:
- “Your Offstreet permit is about to expire.”
- Uses the session’s timezone for accurate send times.
- Delivery supported in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Enabling SMS Reminders
Step 1: Enable SMS for your account
Contact your Account Manager to activate SMS reminders.
Step 2: Turn SMS on for a tenant, or event
For tenants:
- In the Dashboard, open Tenant Details.
- Go to Portal settings.
- Toggle SMS Reminders On.
- Enable Add Instructions and enter your message under Expiring Soon Email Instructions (≤160 characters, links allowed).
- Save.
For events:
- In the Dashboard, open Event Details.
- Go to Settings.
- Click Edit, toggle SMS Reminders On.
- Enable Add Instructions and enter your message under Expiring Soon Email Instructions.
- Save.
Best Practices
- Keep messages short and clear (≤160 characters).
- Include a link for quick session extension.
- Use language that encourages timely action.
Compliance
- Parkers must opt in to receive SMS.
- They can reply STOP at any time to opt out.
- Numbers are used only for parking-related reminders.
FAQ
- Can I send more than one reminder?
No. Only one SMS is sent per session. - If I enable SMS at a location, will it apply to all tenants or events?
No. You must enable it for each tenant or event individually. - What happens if I don’t add custom instructions?
Offstreet will send a default reminder message on your behalf. - What number will SMS reminders come from?
All reminders are sent from the same phone number. - What if I reply “STOP” to a reminder?
Replying “STOP” unsubscribes you from SMS reminders on that number. You won’t get reminders at any Offstreet location / campus / client until you re-subscribe. - How do I start receiving reminders again?
Just text “START” to the same number, and you’ll be re-subscribed automatically.
