Duplicate a Permit Type Draft

Overview

Duplicate makes a full copy of an existing permit type, including its portal and dashboard availability. Use it to spin up a variant (a new rate, schedule or tenant group) without rebuilding the parking options, pricing and settings by hand.

How to duplicate

1. Go to Permits → Permit Types and open the permit type you want to copy.
2. Click Duplicate (top right of the permit type page).
3. Read the warning in the dialog: Permit Type may be live instantly when duplicated.
4. Enter a Name (required). It defaults to "Copy of <original name>"; replace it with the final name now, since it also names the new portal link.
5. Click Duplicate. You land on the new permit type's page with a "Permit Type duplicated" confirmation.
6. Right away, review the new permit type's Portal and Dashboard Access and turn off anything that shouldn't be live yet (see Gotchas).

What gets copied

Every configuration section carries over unchanged; only the name, audit history and permits differ. Observed by duplicating Guest Parking in the test dashboard.

Does not copy: Existing permit records, registration codes, segments, old IDs, lookup links, or audit history.

Gotchas and post-duplicate checklist

The biggest risk is that parkers see the copy before it's ready, because it joins the portal links they already use.

• It shows up on existing links instantly. Location links (e.g. Structure A) and tenant links (e.g. Visitors at Structure A) now list both the original and the copy. Parkers using those links or QR codes can buy the copy right away.
• Identical options side by side. Until you change it, the copy has the same parking options, times and prices as the original, so parkers see two identical choices.
• Name it before you confirm. The name you type becomes the name of the new portal link too. Rename both if you change it later.

After duplicating:

• Turn Portal and Dashboard access off on the copy if it isn't ready
• Change the parking options, pricing, limits or tenants that make it different
• Check Portal links on the copy and confirm which location/tenant links it appears on
• Use Preview to see what parkers will see
• Re-enable access when the copy is final

FAQ

Does duplicating copy existing permits? No. The copy starts empty. (Not yet confirmed on a source with active permits; the test original had none.)

Does changing the copy affect the original? No. They are separate permit types; they only share the location and tenant portal links.

Can I duplicate without it going live? Not in one step. The copy inherits the original's access settings, so disable Portal and Dashboard on it straight after.

Who shows as the creator? Whoever clicked Duplicate, with the time of duplication. The original's audit history is not carried over.

Can I leave the name blank? No, Name is required.
